Dining Room Restoration

The Van Cortlandt House Museum Dining
Room c. 1965 after the last major round of
restoration.
The restoration of the Dining Room or room 102 of Van Cortlandt House has existed as an ongoing project for longer than anyone would care to admit.
Although a precise end-date is still not in sight, the construction phase of the project is at long-last begun. Wanting to share updates about the project to a wide audience, it became abundantly clear that it was finally time to get this blog off the ground.

On The View from Van Cortlandt House's blog page you will find photographs and documents pertaining to the Dining Room restoration project. Please check back often as they will be updated and added to quite frequently in the coming days. If you have feedback or questions regarding the project please post them to the blog. Not only does it take one to raise a child, it also takes a village to fully understand the restoration of a period room.

Welcome

I've long considered starting a blog about my experiences as Director of Van Cortlandt House Museum. With a very exciting and challenging restoration project starting to pick up speed, it seems like there's no time like the present to get such a blog off the ground. My goal is to bring a personal view to my daily life as Director of Van Cortlandt House Museum and provide a forum for further exploration and sharing of the rich history and magnificent collections Van Cortlandt House has to offer. I hope you enjoy my new endeavor and please do not hesitate to make suggestions of what you wish to learn about the house.

Sincerely, Laura Carpenter Myers
